Early November – early January: Volunteers conduct up to 1 hour daily counts at Eagle Run dike in Brackendale during peak eagle season. Choose the shifts you want, according to your availability.
When:
- Our Eagle Watch season runs daily, from November 1 through the first weekend in January.
- Morning and afternoon shifts are available.
- Each shift takes approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour
- No minimum commitment. Do as many or as few shifts as you want.
Who:
- Anyone with good eyesight and a pair of binoculars!*
- New volunteers are welcome. No experience necessary.
- Training materials are provided and mentoring is available.
- Family groups are welcome.
Where:
- Eagle Run dike on Government Road in Brackendale, overlooking the Squamish River.
- The dike is a flat, gravelled surface, accessed by climbing stairs or a ramp.
- The site can be reached on foot, by bike, vehicle and public transit.
- Parking is available along Government Rd.
What is involved?
- EagleWatching involves walking along the Eagle Run dike for up to one hour, counting bald eagles that are perched in trees, feeding on salmon from the sand bars, or soaring in the sky above.
- Morning and afternoon shifts are available each day.
- Sign-up is via an online scheduling platform.
- You choose the shifts you want, according to your availability, complete your shifts at the designated times and submit your count results to the Program Coordinator.
- There are no minimum shift requirements.

- * We recommend EagleWatching with a pair of 8x or 10x-powered binoculars. If you don’t have binoculars, we may be able to lend you a pair.
- Eagle Run dike is not plowed or shoveled in the event of snow.
