Nature Squamish sponsors the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count (CBC) for the Squamish area. Audubon Christmas Bird Counts are held around the world during a four week period in December and January. Those who are interested but not able to join the counters in the field are welcome to conduct a count in their own backyards.

When:

Mid-December. Date confirmed by December 1 each year. Pre-registration is required.

Where:

Meeting place confirmed each year. Each team surveys one of 16, pre-assigned areas covering the wider Squamish Valley.

Who:

Everyone is welcome on the Squamish CBC and encouraged to take part. Please contact the count coordinator, if you are interested in participating but have reduced mobility, health concerns, or other restrictions.

What is involved?

  • Some count areas have uneven, muddy, snowy, and otherwise awkward terrain
  • Data collection using eBird mobile is encouraged (but paper is also ok)
